‘No one talks that way about my momma’: 11-year-old stands up to a Karen at the little league baseball game after she talks down to his mom who was standing up for him

Parenting is a constant learning experience for everyone involved. Anything can be a life lesson, so you have to always been on your toes!! Pretty wild. Take this mom who had the most mixed emotions after finding out about a little petty revenge her 11-year-old son dished out to a local Karen. 

 

This 11-year-old was hired to keep score for his big brother's little league baseball games. One Karen saw him rooting for his brother and accused him of fudging the score numbers to help his brother out. The mother heard this and stood up for her son. She said he is allowed to support his brother and be an honest score keeper. Like, go away Karen, not everybody teaches their kids to get their way in nefarious ways. The Karen then whispers disrespectful things about his mom out of earshot of his mom, but not out of earshot of him…

  • So he did the best thing an 11-year-old could do. He used his weapon of choice (a blue Slushie) and his super power (pre-teen innocence) to his advantage!

    The backstory: I got my first paycheck job when I was in middle school. While attending my brother's little league game I found myself more interested in the score tracker and how the lady in charge of keeping score was filling it out for each game.

  • She noticed my interest and showed me what she was doing, she even let me fill it out for a few innings.

  • At the end of the game she asked if I could score the next two games (each was limited to 30 minutes) and offered me $14.00.

  • She told me to come back to the next game and she would grab the score tracking book from me then.

  • I scored the games and came back the next day, but she didn't show, so I scored those because someone needed to.

  • When I got home I walked over to my neighbor who just so happened to be the head of Parks and Recreation for our town.

  • I told him what happened but when I tried to give him the tracker he told me to hang on to it, and hired me on as the official score keeper for the rest of the season, paying me what she had offered, $7 a game.

  • Without telling the lady she was my mom or the mom of the kid at bat I had cheered for, she defended me, saying I was just a kid who probably had never thought about trying to cheat (I hadn't) and there was nothing wrong with me cheering for my brother the way I had.

  • The petty revenge: Several games later and there Karen sits. She's wearing the whitest white shirt I've ever seen and I had just purchased a bright blue iced slushie to enjoy while scoring that day's games.

  • I climb the stands, smile warmly at her, and sit directly behind her, drink in one hand, scorekeeping tracker in the other.

  • It doesn't take long before, unfortunately, I find it too difficult to manage everything I'm holding and "accidently" spill the large, blue, frozen concoction all down the back of Karen's white shirt.

  • She storms off and I never see her again. When I get home I ask mom if she remembers Karen, tell her what she had said out of mom's earshot, and then what happened at that day's game.

  • I'd never seen such a mixed emotion on my mom who told me, very sternly, that what I had done was wrong and to never do anything like that again, while at the same time smiling and giving me a huge hug.
